This is a poem I wrote almost ten years ago for a college poetry class. I wanted something.... primal. I think it worked...

Feel the drums,
Beating, pounding,
Like a frantic heartbeat.
See the flames,
Leaping, dancing,
Casting mystic shadows.
Seeking self,
Soul, heart, mind, soul,
In the sacred circle.
Drums thunder,
Thrusting me high --
Display me to my gods
Flashing fire,
Flickering bright --
Reveal me to myself
Spirit walk...
Dreamtime...
Soul quest...
I feel the drums,
Beating, pounding,
Like a racing heartbeat.
I see the flames,
Leaping, dancing,
Casting mystic visions.
